Vaishno Devi

Vaishno Devi is one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations in India, located in the Trikuta Mountains near the town of Katra in the Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir. Every year, millions of devotees visit the sacred shrine to seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi. The temple is situated inside a cave at an altitude of about 5,200 feet, making the journey both spiritual and adventurous.
Religious Significance
Vaishno Devi is considered one of the most important Shakti Peeths in Hinduism. According to legend, the goddess Vaishno Devi meditated in the holy cave and later defeated the demon Bhairavnath. Devotees believe that visiting the shrine fulfills wishes and brings peace and prosperity.
The Pilgrimage Journey
The pilgrimage begins from Katra, which is the base town for the Vaishno Devi Yatra. Devotees travel around 13 kilometers from Katra to reach the Bhawan (main shrine). The journey can be completed by walking, horse riding, palki, or helicopter services. Along the route, visitors can also visit important spots such as Ardhkuwari Cave and Bhairavnath Temple.
Best Time to Visit
Vaishno Devi can be visited throughout the year. However, the most comfortable months for the pilgrimage are March to October. Festivals like Navratri attract a large number of devotees.
